Most of the time the mother and father can help themselves in their child behavior modification through a few simple steps. 1. Draw limits for your child.. This suggests that as a mother or father you must make clear cut distinctions between the desired behavior and the undesirable behavior. As a parent one must inform the child about his/her limits. 2. Don't make too many rules. While setting the limits or the do's and don'ts for your own baby a mother or father should know that there should not be too many rules. This can actually slow down the development of the child as it'll kill his willingness to experiment and promote open thought. 3. Make sure that the rules you make for your kid are flexible so that your own child can enjoy space and also you as a parent need to break your own rules to accommodate your child's wishes. This can actually develop a healthy relationship between the child and the parent. 4. Do not give in to your child's unreasonable demands. As a parent one must be careful as to not to give in to their own child's unreasonable demands. This at a later stage can cause defiant disorder because the child would assume that displaying tantrums would make parents gullible. 5. Always give reason to your child for not accepting or fulfilling the kid's demands. Instead of just saying that don't do this as I told you so, give a reason. This will not just make the child understand but also trust you. 6. Don't shout or over react towards your child's undesirable behavior this can invariably make him or her stubborn. Instead give reason for your condemnation of the behavior. Find out different ways and means to correct your child's behavior. Sometimes a stern look could be more effective compared with a shout. 7. Be firm. Parents should always keep in mind that they do not deviate from their statements. A 'no' should be a 'no' and shouldn't turn into a yes at any circumstance. This can help in not only disciplining the child but also modifying faulty behaviors. If parents could be careful in making sure that they keep the above mentioned pointers in mind, they will certainly be able to make sure they are able to get their child behavior modification goals fulfilled in a smooth manner without having to shout or hit the child.
